
![]() Spring Gardens Week 17-21 May 2010 - Celebrates the blooming month of May, Windsor Great ParkMay provides internationally famous spring displays in the gardens of Windsor Great Park, and to celebrate this magnificent time of year, The Royal Landscape is holding Spring Gardens Week 17-21 May, with special events ranging from daily tours of The Savill Garden to carriage rides through The Royal Landscape. The Savill Garden is offering free daily guided walks from 17-21 May at 11am (normal admission charges apply to the Garden). Highlights will include Spring Wood, where the mature trees spread their leaves over a stunning spectacle of rhododendrons, azaleas, the later magnolias and other flowering woodland plants. In the Bog Garden, part of the Hidden Gardens, the first of the candelabra primulas come into flower closely followed by Siberian irises and other moisture–loving plants. The magnificence of The Valley Gardens in Spring will be highlighted with a free guided walk by the Head of the Valley Gardens on Tuesday 18 May at 11am. The famous Kurume Azaleas in the Punch Bowl which will be at their peak and the magnificent rhododendron collection will be two of the many treats to be found on the tour. The walk will begin from the Valley Gardens car park and will last 1 to 1½ hours. The Valley Gardens are hilly and visitors should wear appropriate footwear. Visitors to the Valley Gardens can also enjoy late flowering magnolias which are part of the National Collection; the spring heathers in the Heather Garden; and the rich diversity of broadleaved trees, including many ‘champions’, bedecked in their new leaves. A new viewing platform allows less able visitors to enjoy a superb view of the Punch Bowl. For visitors arriving at the Savill Building who wish to enjoy a unique and special view of The Royal Landscape at this time of year, there are horse drawn carriage rides leaving from The Savill Building and trotting through The Royal Landscape to The Valley Gardens’ Punch Bowl, where there will be a brief stop for photographs, running from 17-21 May 11.00am to 4.00pm. Complete your trip with a visit to The Savill Building where there will be a magnificent floral spring display created by The Old Windsor NAFAS Club. Enjoy the superb gift shop, outdoor plant centre, the art gallery and the popular restaurant, managed by Leiths.
