The children can meet Father Christmas, take part in artistic workshops and be creative with decorations and cards. Mum and Dad can buy all of their Christmas gifts and decorations, including the tree, from The Savill Building Shop. And then the family can enjoy a free visit throughout December to the beautiful Savill Garden, followed by a hot snack to warm up afterwards in the restaurant. Visit Father Christmas in his cosy grotto and let him know what you would like for Christmas on 5/6, 12/13, 19/20 December. The price per child is £5 and each will receive a small gift. Join local artist Kerry Lemon in The Gallery at The Savill Building to take part in one of her fun Christmas workshops for children. Create a 3ft high sparkly Christmas tree from willow branches and tissue paper on 5 and 19 December and take it home the next day. Alternatively, ‘Make a reindeer hobby horse’ on 12 December and ride it home from The Savill Garden. The price for each workshop is £20 (one adult and up to two children). Spaces are limited and to book call 01784 435 544. Paint, glitter and stick your own children’s Christmas decorations on 6, 13 and 20 December 10am-4.30pm. The price per decoration is £4. And from 1-24 December children can colour in their own Christmas cards using paper, pens and crayons. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times during these activities. Come and enjoy some relaxed Christmas shopping at The Savill Building with easy parking and a fantastic range of high quality, interesting gifts and Christmas decorations. There will be a special late night shopping evening at The Savill Building on Wednesday 9 December. Visitors will have the opportunity to browse in the Shop whilst enjoying savoury tastings from The Bay Tree and delicious chocolates from the House of Sarunds, accompanied by a performance of live festive music. There is an extensive range of Christmas gifts for all the family available from 22 October which includes puddings, mince pies and cakes from Duchy, seasonally wrapped toiletries from Arran Aromatics, beautifully soft Jellycat toys for the little ones and retro puzzles for winter nights amongst many other gift ideas. There is also an unusual selection of stocking fillers under £5. The Christmas decorations are great fun and include bright, fun felt ranges for children, together with a natural, homemade range and a sophisticated silver, sparkly collection for adults. There are also festive table linen, stockings, baubles and decorations, together with a great selection of wreaths, garlands, candles and lanterns to decorate the home. Come and select a beautiful British Christmas tree that is just the right shape and size for your house from The Savill Building, and reduce your carbon footprint by buying British. The trees will be on sale from 1 December during Garden opening hours and, once you have picked a tree, it will be wrapped safely for you to take home. Christmas trees and logs are also available from the Paddock, Forest Gate (opposite Pink Lodge, on the A332 just outside Windsor). In the New Year, there will be a tree recycling facility in The Savill Garden Car Park, where the trees will be chipped and made into compost which is then used to enrich the soil across The Royal Landscape. After shopping and creative activities, go for a refreshing walk around The Savill Garden which is free to visit throughout December and beautiful at this time of year. New for 2009 are the winter beds which bring together a range of beautiful plants that defy the drab winter weather. Variegated ivies, bright yellow Oshima sedge, blue sheep’s fescue grass and the golden Japanese rush all carpet the ground. Enjoy the yellow, orange and burgundy coloured stemmed dogwoods. If conditions are favourable the yellow scented flowers of witch hazel may emerge before Christmas. The Queen Elizabeth Temperate House will also have a vibrant seasonal display and the National Mahonia Collection will be at its peak in scattered locations throughout the Garden.
