Windsor Great Park's Royal Landscape rich in autumn colour with special half term activities including the 'Pumpkins in The Park' competition

Magnificent autumn colour abounds throughout The Royal Landscape this year, providing a fantastic backdrop to Pumpkins in the Park 25-31 October.

Autumn activities include the judging of the champion pumpkin competition; a pumpkin weighing over 1,350 lbs (the average weight of a fully grown cow) on show from 27 October which is one of the largest grown in the UK this year; and a fine display of over 1,000 gourds, squashes and pumpkins in the Queen Elizabeth Temperate House.

Celebrating the autumn, Pumpkins in the Park will run from 25-31 October. The pumpkin competition will be judged by The Keeper of the Gardens and the Head of The Savill Garden on 23 and 24 October. The winning pumpkin will form the centre piece of the autumn display in the Temperate House. This will include over 20 varieties of pumpkin, together with pumpkins grown by children from The Royal School and by Windsor Estate residents.

There will also be a wide range of exotic pumpkins for sale in the ‘Pumpkin Shop’ selling gourds, pumpkins and other pumpkin related items. Free pumpkin painting for children will be available from 27-31 October in the Savill Building Gallery. Visitors will also be able to sample the winning dish from the recipe competition of pumpkin and apple soup which will be served in the restaurant. Horse and carriage rides will also be running from 25-31 October setting off from The Savill Building.

Nick Day, Operations Manager, The Crown Estate, says:

“Pumpkins in the Park will be a great fun event. We are excited about the pumpkin entries coming in for the competition and we will have to see if any match up to the 1,350 lb pumpkin on display!”
