Mums go free into The Savill Garden, Windsor Great Park, on Mother's Day

Sunday 3 April

Mums go free to The Savill Garden, part of The Royal Landscape, Windsor Great Park, on Mother’s Day (Sunday 3 April 2011). Treat your mum to a fantastic day out with a stroll around this beautiful spring Garden, together with a visit to The Savill Building, and enjoy the superb gift shop, outdoor plant centre, the art gallery and the popular restaurant, managed by Leiths. There will also be horse drawn carriage rides from The Savill Building running throughout the day from 11.00am to 4.00pm.

The Savill Garden has an international reputation for its spring plant collections and fine floral displays. Spring Wood is especially vibrant, with many early flowering species of magnolias, camellias and rhododendrons coming into bloom.

There are also drifts of dwarf daffodils and crocuses which enjoy the damp, sunny meadows through The Glades. This glorious display originated from just a small handful of seed donated more than 40 years ago.

Additional displays have also been created at the entrance to The Savill Garden with the planting of 15,000 bulbs to create a dazzling succession of flowers including grape hyacinths, miniature daffodils and parrot tulips. In the Queen Elizabeth Temperate House, further drifts of bulbs, including scented hyacinths, will complement the tender camellias, rhododendrons and magnolias which flower at the same time.
