Fantastic open air theatre returns to The Savill Garden, Windsor Great Park, with three classic plays for August 2010Following last year’s sell-out performances, The Chapterhouse Theatre Company is presenting A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Much Ado About Nothing and Pride and Prejudice in the beautiful surroundings of The Royal Landscape’s Savill Garden, Windsor Great Park, from 19 to 21 August. Crown Estate Operations Manager Nick Day says: “The Savill Garden provides an extraordinary setting for these open air theatre performances. It is one of our favourite weekends of the year, as theatre goers are able to enjoy the special privilege of bringing a picnic into certain areas of the garden from 6pm on the evening of the plays, and enjoying The Savill Garden in a completely different way, really bringing it to life.” Allow the mischievous Robin Goodfellow in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (19 August) to spirit you away into the Athenian forest as Shakespeare’s verse weaves its magic over you. Enjoy a relaxed summer’s evening as the lovers’ tale of romance, woe, magic and excitement plays out before you, and the misadventures of Bottom’s troop of mechanicals create all sorts of fun and frolics that are sure to delight all the family Enjoy an evening of true Shakespearian merriment under the stars with Much Ado About Nothing (20 August). Much to the delight of the engaged Claudio and Hero, the inimitable Beatrice and her begrudging match Benedick are tricked into confessing their love for each other, with consequences both hilarious and heart-stoppingly romantic. Complete with the jealous machinations of the villainous Don John and a whole host of delightfully cheeky characters, this light-hearted love story is sure to entertain and enthral. Take a step back in time with Pride and Prejudice (21 August) as we meet Elizabeth Bennet and her sisters. Whilst their interfering mother engineers various courtships, sisters Elizabeth and Jane must pursue their own quest for true love. Amongst misunderstandings, mistakes and miscommunications, the two girls must fight for the men they love until Elizabeth can finally surpass her prejudices to see past the proud exterior of the enigmatic Mr Darcy. The award winning Savill Building will also be open from 6pm and the restaurant will be serving refreshments before the play begins. During the interval, there will be a bar and ice cream will also be available. Audience members are welcome to bring along their own chairs or rugs for the evening, although there will be some chairs available in the auditorium for those who don’t have their own. Being an outdoor performance, it is advisable to come dressed for the weather of the day, as the performances will continue in all but the most severe of weather. Tickets are now on sale from The Savill Building with no booking fee. Tickets are also available online at www.seetickets.com (a booking fee is charged via this website). Tickets are £12 per adult; students and children under 16 are £8; and a family ticket (2 adults and 2 children) is £35. There is a 10% discount for group bookings of 10 or more people. Gates open from 6pm and all of the performances begin at 7.30pm.
